Four Seasons Nursery Objectives:
Four Seasons will provide a high standard of professional child care. The rooms are bright, warm and welcoming and new children settle quickly. They are well stocked with toys and equipment to stimulate the children in all areas of their development
The children’s social and emotional development is enhanced by the stability of qualified staff and a warm, caring and relaxed atmosphere.
A 'key worker' system operates throughout the nursery. The role of the key worker is to provided a safe and secure environment, have an awareness of the children's background and progress and to promote the in their next steps of learning and development.
We promote active learning by implementing National and local advice to provide a broad and balanced curriculum. We use the following documents :- The Curriculum for Excellence, Pre-birth to Three and Getting it Right for Every Child (GIFREC) The expected outcomes are for children to be Successful Learners Confident Individuals Effective Contributors and Responsible Citizens.
After School Care
Our After School Care Service provides a homely environment for the children to relax and have fun after a busy day at school. For the children who attended Four Seasons before starting school it is a familiar environment for them to return to at the end of the day.
Presently we provide a morning drop off to school only for children who attend After School Club. At present we pick-up from Oakbank Primary School and Viewlands Primary School.
The children are provided with a light snack when they arrive, they also assist with the menu planning, preparation and sometimes baking.
The children have many opportunities to be active within the community, e.g. Making use of the local park, Live Active sessions at Letham Community Centre, Mini Bus trips, Local library, museum etc.
Partnership with parents and carers
Four Seasons is fully committed to promoting close links through parent partnership. Communication and Involvement is accessible by the following examples: Parents/carers have access to their child’s key worker for informal discussion and sharing information on a daily basis. The management is also available, either informally or by appointment. Parents/carers are informed of daily activities and snack menu - information in the hallway.
Regular newsletters – this includes planning, news and events.
A formal parent contact evening in June to discuss the review of their child’s progress and be given a well detailed report under each heading of the Curriculum.
Parents/carers have unlimited time to help settle their child into nursery. Parents/carers can visit the nursery at any time during working hours – Stay and Play or Open Days.
Parents/carers may support topic work by providing play resources, knowledge and experience
Parents can join us on our annual outing, take part in fund raising activities, Christmas parties and attend the “Parent Committee” meetings.
All parental enquiries will be given careful consideration and dealt with promptly and effectively.
Health, Well Being and Eco Friendly
Diet. Four Seasons strongly promotes healthy eating. Fruit and/or vegetables is provided daily at snack time along with another healthy carbohydrate option. Milk or water is served with snacks and lunches. Children have access to drinking water throughout the day. The children sow and plant vegetables in the nursery garden, these the children help dig up, clean, prepare and cook for their snacks.
Fresh Air and Exercise. The children have daily outdoor activities in all weathers and the playground is suitably resourced to encourage enthusiastic physical exercise.
Dental Hygiene. Four Seasons promotes an awareness to oral health. Children clean their teeth daily, after lunch. Free toothbrushes and toothpaste is provided.
- Doorbell entry system, a password or photograph for an approved family member or carer who has to collect a child when the parent is not available.
- Staff qualified in First Aid
- Fire Drill Practice
- Building, equipment and activities regularly risk Assessed
- Sun hats and sun creams are used in the summer months
- Keep records of children with food or skin allergies or special dietary needs.
ECO friendly. The children take an active part in tending to our ECO garden. The children sow, plant and tend to flowers and vegetables. Feeding the birds and searching out wildlife and creating living areas for small creatures is also a favoured activity. The children are made aware of recycling materials and are given the opportunity of a nursery trip to the recycling centre.
